While reading these chapters, one question stuck in my mind through the whole thing. I want to know why Pap wants to be in total control of Huck. Pap is pretty much a dead beat dad, not in the sense of never being around, but in the sense of not being "fatherly". He tries to be around Huck, but he's always drunk and so rude. He may let Huck smoke and swear and do whatever he wants, but what dad tries to steal from their son to buy beer for himself? What dad tells their son that he can't go to school and be better than him? This train of thought did lead me to think about another question too. What was Huck's mom like? Once again, I'd really like a back story, Besides that the rest of the reading was straight forward and I understood it all.
While reading page 27, it's clear that Pap does not like the government at all. He doesn't like the government for a couple reasons. These are a couple of the things I strongly disliked about these chapters. The first is that he once saw a black man vote. Pap stated that he'd never vote again because they were letting this black man vote. The other reason is that they are trying to take away his son that he so-called "raised."
One thing I enjoyed while reading, is that Huck and Jim are close. It's really cool because back in that time no one really had a great relationship with slaves, especially little white boys. It's different, and I like it a lot.
