My experience in art classes have been all over the place. I took the second semester of art 1 my freshman year, then I took the first semester of art 1 my sophomore year. Then the second semester of my junior year, I took computer art, which was by far my favorite.
I’ve learned the most this semester in my art career than any other semester. First of all, I learned that art is really abstract and it all just depends on your own perspective and how things make YOU feel. When it comes to colors, I learned a lot about the importance of dark and light values and that there are so many more shades of light and dark, sort of like a color wheel of shading. To add to that, I learned that lines can be shaded differently too, not just one dark line for the outside of something. Also, between those light and dark values, there are transitional shades. With all that being said, when it comes to colors, I learned that when PuffPaff wants dark, he means dark.
While painting in our various projects, I learned more about mixing paint and painting in general. I also learned that perfect friends are hard to come by. The projects this semester definitely taught me how to blend paints with water, they also taught me more about values of color. In other aspects of art besides painting and shading, I learned how to use indie ink, and in the same project, I learned more about how to use 3 pt perspective better. When it comes to my drawing, I learned that drawing a fence free hand is seriously more difficult than one might think. Overall, I’ve learned a lot of valuable art lessons this semester.
I’ve improved a lot in art because I’ve learned a tremendous amount this semester. I’ve improved on shading the most because I learned just how many different values there are. I’ve started to exaggerate the darks and lights so that there’s more of a contrast. Also, I’ve improved on my painting because I now know how to blend paint using water.
Looking forward to next semester, I’m excited to learn more clay techniques. Clay happens to be my favorite part of art and I really cannot wait to learn more about it. Also, I’m excited to learn more about painting because painting is really interesting to me.
